Any Woman You Like

This Women’s Month a really prevalent theme for me has been variety of self expression. If there is one thing my mother and grandmother have always emphasised about being a woman it’s that there is no recipe for being the perfect woman – we are not cakes.

I’m bringing this up because I feel that the acceptance of one ‘sort’ of femininity is creating enormous pressure for so many young women – the results of which are easy to spot when scrolling down our social media timelines.  I for one think there is more to be gained in discovering the many women you can be and nothing to be learnt trying to squeeze into one picture of femininity that seemingly fits no-one.

It is a form of worthy protest to be true to yourself and reflect the woman you truly are at all times, even if this changes as you grow. This both brings about a happier, lighter you and gives permission to others like yourself to do the same. There is validation and strengthening  of others in being yourself and beyond that it is freakin’ awesome.

Happy women’s month.

  1. “It is a form of worthy protest to be true to yourself…” Shout out to all the women who aren’t afraid to be as feminine, as masculine or as undefinable as they please.
